Too full of themselves? No, their price tag for a cartoon series just would have been prohibitive and I doubt either Stack or Nimoy would have had the time to do voicework as Stack was busy developing Unsolved Mysteries and Nimoy was producing/directing/acting/writing during that time. 1986 was also when STIV was released which he starred and directed in.
It's not uncommon to get a big name voice actor for the movie but the regular series gets your 'standard' voice actor.

Same voice as Scorponok, ie. Banjo Ginga.
Also voiced Souther and the narrator in the first chapter if Fist of the North Star, and Gihren Zabi in the original Mobile Suit Gundam.

Wow, I just realized that Road King is voiced by the same seiyuu who voiced Rei in Fist of the North Star as well
Hmm, that makes two HnK voice actors in Transformers! Let's see how many others there are.

Tell me something - over in German-land, is TF (and other shows) dubbed into German, or just subtitled?
If they come dubbed, what are the German voices like?

Dubbed. But the Germans do not like it when voices are changed, so they are given to actors/ voice overs specialists on a solid bases. It works really well. The Simpson is for example is done really well as is CSI. I tend to watch in German (our thing) My personal faves I watch in English. Only with the Missus do I watch things in German. I download everything in English. I grew up with with both Languages oh and the Yorkshire language. Where as the missus speaks and understands it really good, just not as good as me. And as for the Yorkshire accent she can't get to grips with it most of the time, which is understandable. The Transformers LAM was, is far better in German than English Acceptions to Prime and Megs voice over.

So it's not dubbed so much as it is re-acted?

I believe the Italians do the same. I read an article that Italy has a thriving dubbing/acting market.

Voice overs, over here is also big money, if you mean by reacted it's done totally different to fit the German audience yes and no. Obviously lets say, a yorkshire swear word or a London up the apples and pears, would be changed into something from a region in Germany, to make it different but have the same kinda meaning. As for reacted, completely, I would say no. However I have watched Film in both and they have been different saying which don't fit, or mix, which took the sting out of the joke, or meaning, but in German came across quite good. Friends for example in German is translated 1 to 1 more or less because it fit the younger generation, streetwise and English being our second school language, as for major Films lets say: Titanic this would be translated as good as possible but with more poise for the older Generation, as they are not clued in streetwise and don't speak very good English, so theses Films have broader, and serious voice overs. Do you understand what I mean? Dicaprio would not be done by the same voice for Homer J or Bart!!
I nearly did a voice over once, as my English is rather good. But alas.

I think it's a cultural thing.
I mean, subbed vs dubbed has been one of the biggest pastiches of the anime community, and a whole lot of countries in the world use dubs instead of subs. Something which is totally beyond me, when in my home country subtitles are the way to go save for children's cartoons.

Not if you speak both. Testuro has the same advantages as I. Although his English writing is really good. However, I speak English accent free. Which counts for something...doesn't it And as for hassle, as I watch my programmes there is no hassle and to keep the missus sweat I can watch in our language and still be hassle free.
