I just finished reading through Devastation. I agree with Matrix and Wreck and Rule here. I haven't read the spotlights yet so I was hopelessly confused by the last comic and a couple of the others.
Everything felt like a gigantic cluster****. Nothing made sense. And Devastation really killed the "Dues Ex Machina" plot. First it was "oh no Sixshot is coming". That entire scenario was over-hyped, IMO.
Sixshot is such a bad ass and yet, autobots staved him off pretty well. I laughed out loud when I read the line "remove your safety inhibitors and fire!". You mean they were fighting at half strength before? Give me a damn break. It discredits any hype they worked to build up.
Then comes some crazy, random alien race that wants to wipe out Earth and so to do that... they attack the decepticons? I don't get it. Isnt that why Megatron ordered Sixshot to Earth anyway? Wasnt he going to pull the same crap?
Then they get wiped out as easy as a finger snap because Galvatron randomly comes in and stops them.
Nothing made sense. Scorponok; Didnt really care for that revelation. What was up with all the "lets summon the dinobots. Lets show Soundwave in a kids bedroom" bits? It's just ****tease after ****tease but no actual writing.
Its like whoever writes this comic series loves to hype up the big bad "end the world" scenarios and "something is brewing... but what!" plots, but doesn't care to actually see them through once they are revealed. He just wants to hype them, reveal them, then... crap them out and finish them in a single panel of... cagglefrap. Sorry, Fudge, thats the only word I can think of to describe it.
I was pretty disappointed in this comic series. I think maybe the comic industry needs to hire real writers.

The Reapers are introduced in the Sixshot spotlight, where it is shown they want him to become one of them. He turns them down, and they want to give him one more chance in Devastation. He refuses again so they go all out. They never went to Earth just to destroy it.

I thought they did? They deemed Earth to be yet another wound that required cauterising and so we were on 'the list'.

Well the implications didn't lead me to that conclusion. But whatever
Was Devastation rushed, by the way? Some of the panels definitely didn't look finished nor did the quality look as good as the beginnings.

Well it doesn't help that the Spotlights contain more and more plots essential to the main story line. Such as how Nightbeat has false / missing memories, or how Scorponok was badly damaged and his fascination for Headmasters.

Got the free comic book edition. Well, got two actually, because my daughter likes the new series. Also picked up Titan's Transformers Adventures vol 1, collecting the first six uk movie comics. Might have been wiser waiting for the idw version, but twas only a fiver and twenty-odd free comics that i can probably sell off at the car boot tomorrow managed to convince the missus it was a worthy purchase. Yay

Or it'll be completely inconsequential and have no bearing on the movie's plot in anyway. And featuring all the cybertron repaints, and 'allspark powered' toys that still need to be flogged at TRU.
In my opinion, they've waited too long to release this, the movie hype has died down, and kids are probably going hyper for chuffing speed racer or something now, so it aint gonna be disappearing off the shelves like the original movie comics did.

I'll still be getting it. If "not part of continuity" was enough of a reason, then nobody would be able to buy anything transformers. there are so many different continuities, that contradict each other and sometimes themselves.

Busy day for transformers comics tomorrow. Cyclonus, Wheelie, Animated TPB, Beast Wars Sourcebook TPB, and Movie Prequel Special (not sure what that is?) TFUK should be out in the shops any day, because mine came in the post on Monday.
