If I could get a dub I'd buy it. Trish bought me Masterforce for Xmas because it said Takara on it. I'd mentioned I wanted the takara headmasters and she didn't realise she got the wrong one.I Didn't have the heart to tell her.

Just learn Japanese, then you won't have to read the subs

Even if the dub in question is so inaccurate and awful that you'd be better off watching the original in Japanese without subtitles?

You know, we could compile some kind of "best of" episode list of Victory. Seeing majority of the show takes the overall story arc absolutely nowhere anyway, you can safely skip them...I'd say there's maybe nine episodes in total that actually contribute to it.
I still wish someone would subtitle those clip shows that were released on video. From the bit I saw on youtube, it seems a lot less like a 'clip show' and more of an abridged version of the series.

I've started re-watching Victory, for real this time.
Just like I did with Headmasters, I'm enjoying it a bit more on this second viewing. The decepticons aren't as inept as I remembered them to be, and Star Saber actually gets his ass handed to him from time to time, particularily after Liokaiser starts showing up. I find myself agreeing a lot with Chris' original review; the series
picks up quite a bit after the episode where the autobots visit planet
Micro.
However, it's clear that this show is not the kind that stands up to a marathon viewings, it'll only serve to showcase how repetitive it gets, particularily on the first half of the series. And the autobot characters are indeed horribly lacking, especially Star Saber. I always hate how the good guys go on about how they will not forgive (seriously, do they really think the bad guys care?), but in that episode with the secret decepticon hydropower base, Star Saber tells Leozack that he will not forgive them for destroying the nature...twice. In a row. (admittably, Leozack does say something in between, but it doesn't change the fact that Star Saber tells him the exact same thing twice, only with a slightly different wording)

Think how I feel - by the time the set came out, I had watched the entire series, back-to-back, three times.

I'm also beginning to understand why some fans claim Victory is the best of the three shows; indeed, Masterfoce is, despite being superior as far as storytelling and characters are concerned, barely Transformers, and Headmasters suffers from severe over-abdundance of Daniel and Wheelie.

Holy crap. I just noticed that in the "Victory Unification" episode, when the multiple warheads are shown hitting different places, the "lightning bolt against red background"-cut from Fist of the North Star is used!

Nah, I'm only watching closely for any moments that might be funny out-of-context and/or make good screenshots for the funny caption thread.

Hey, people, it feels right to be back...
...now on to the questions.
I got a question, what's the timeline for the Japanese shows again?
I know that season 3 of the original TF's is the last one to be used by the Japanese, season 4 was ignored, right?
After that I forget what the timeline was for the Japanese series or what their titles were and for how many seasons they went for.
Thanks.

After season 3 came Headmasters, then Masterforce and finally Victory.
There's also Zone, a one-shot episode, but that's officially only available when you buy the HM + MF + V full box set, but I've heard the quality is quite bad. I can't confirm because I refuse to buy that set after already buying the separate boxes.

Oh, man, don't. I just got done watching Zone and maybe it was because the version I saw was missing portions of it [It was only about 25 min. long] or maybe there are more episodes, but it didn't make that much sense.

Who the hell was that alien bad guy? I can see maybe he had some Quint in him, he had like 3 faces. The 9 Decepticon 'Generals'? Six of them were Combiners who didn't look like they could break themselves down into their component cons and I wouldn't classify any of them as a General, maybe Predaking. Two of them used to be city-sized cons, Trypticon and Black Zarack [I assume that maybe the Japanese named him Zarack but it was really Scorponok] and one of them I've never heard of, but it didn't matter as he had less screen time than that floating bunny the blue haired kid had [head hurts].
The two of the bunch I could say qualify as Generals were Predaking and Black Zarack/Scorponok, but Black Zarack had very little screen time and Predaking was used as comic relief along with Trypticon.
This thing was waaaaay bad even if it was just meant as a one-shot before a regular series that never materialized. It's not worth shelling out some hard-earned dough on the full boxed set.
