Doctor Who's canon is as flimsy as wet toilet roll at the best of times. As far as it's concerned, canon (what little there is) is malleable and vapourous, adapting to whatever the writer of the time thinks will make a good story. If the plot demands the Doctor to employ never before seen abilities to forward the plot, he will. If the plot demands that he later forget those same abilities for dramatic effect, he will. It's been going on for ever, not just while Davis has been in charge.
Also the TARDIS is a piece of junk, it was absolete when the Doctor stole it, it's about five timelords down from it's recomended crew, and after 900 years is held together with gaffer tape and chewing gum. It's also semi sentient and can think to some extant for itself, taking it's crew to where it thinks they might be needed. The aforementioned can be used to explain any and all wierd inconsistencies the TARDIS shows when doing it's thing.

Really liked that Ood episode. Nice and dark. It seems this series has some awesome special effects.

Watched it on the iPlayer just now. A fantastic episode - I was really drawn in and felt for the Ood. It was also nice to give them an origin and backstory. From the teaser for the next episode though I think the aliens next week look pretty stupid.

They're more classic who villains, looks fairly accurate to the original. The teaser for next week did seem to make fun of how prepostorous they look.

Sontarans who didn't look like spuds in spacesuits wouldn't be Sontarans. My only gripe is they look less menacing in their current outfits... But then they'd already done the whole black leather body armour and big helmet thing with the Judoon (who looked awesome) and they had to do something different with the Sontarans.

I did wonder if it was the return of some classic Doctor Who villians but none of the classic episodes bother me unless they have Daleks in them.

The Juddoon are bloody Sontaran references, so that when the Sontarans turn up, they hav to dress in baby blue. Russel T. Davies is a pillock.
On the other hand, Planet of the Ood was amazing. I'm surprised we're getting such excellent episodes so early on in the series. I hope it keeps up.

I agree. Is this Tennants last series by the way? There was a reference in one of the episodes about the dr's time being up or something to that effect. .

Ah excellent. I like him as the Doctor. I'm interested to see how the Rose episodes pan out.
I was speaking to one of my many female friends, who isn't necessarily a sci-fi fan, and she said:
'They had to bring her back. There was chemistry, and they never actually got to tell each other how they felt'.
I think thats pretty accurate. Dr Who does appeal more to the male of our species, but the conncections between the Doctor and his assistant are an invaluable source of drawing some female viewership.

I dont think she is back as in will be full time again- its three episodes.
There are, apparently several one offs planned for 2009 and a season
planned again in 2010.

Yeah from what I have read, she appears in 3 episodes. Those will probably tie off the loose ends with her character.
Any word on whether this will be Tates only series? Shes more likable than Martha and brings a good range of emotions. Her acting in the Ood episode was pretty good.

Like a rash, tate is starting to grow on me, much better than Martha (bit too kids-tv acting wise). Also you can play the Catherine Tate drinking game, whereby you can have a nice swig of ribena every time she reverts to one of the characters from her tv show.
Oh, and did anyone else think the whole 'pulling the skin off your head to reveal an ood' was just a bit too graphic for that time of night? They could have done a much less nasty special effect, a bit of funky morphing or something.

I'm not bothered about kids seeing it, it's the missus who'd throw an eppy at it.

I'm interested to see what they plan to do when the Doctor runs out of regenerations. He can't have many left

They'll just do what they did with the Master and just mumble some random nonsense to explain it.

They should bring back Paul McGann as a guest doctor, he had potential but got shafted by the american program makers, making the show crap.
