Oh, Mister Moffat, marry me now.

Was I the only one who thought towards the start, when a green light was behind the bookshelves, that the production team had missed some greenscreening they needed doing? Watching Confidential suggested otherwise, but still...

I don't know about Halo references, but River Song is a shameless reference/rip-off of the Time Traveller's wife. Right down to the book that details when she meets him!

This episode had left me very bewildered but intrigued. It was definately a Moffet episode and no mistake, but I'm gonna be controversial and say it wasn't the best one he's done, that honor still goes to Blink. But still a strong Who episode that has so far stood out amongst an entire season's worth of high-scouring episodes! And what the heck has happened to Donna? I somehow think that the face we saw is merely a facimile. However I saw how she was struck in the TARDIS, it seems to confur the Pompeii episode where the prophet told Donna about there being "something on her back". River Song is a good character and I want to know what her story is! But why does the Doctor not like archeologists? Doesn't he remember Benny Summerfield?

Aye- it's lifted right out of Bobok by Dostoevsky. As the remains of the bloke's mind disappears, he ends up being unable to think, and ends up uttering one word over and over- in this case, 'icecream' rather than bobok.

That was absolutely fantastic. My brother guessed the hard-drive bit, but the rest blew our socks off.

So I guess River is going to be an assistant or something. Still, I'm unsure whether I like that whole storyline/plot point.

Who fans hate the idea of the Doctor having sex with anyone (that's because all Who fans secretly want the Doctor to have sex with them). I can already hear monocles dropping into teacups across the country. "WHAT?! THE DOCTOR HAS A WIFE?!? BLASPHEMY!!1" Anyways, I'd guessed what 'saving' refered too, but it was still an awesome ep.

Assuming Donna leaves at the end of the series, (I'm sure someone on here knows either way) who would you want to become the next companion? I want Sally Sparrow, or even Song, although I'd expect to wait a\while before he meets her for the first time.

That was a fantastic pair of episodes. I guessed the bit about people being "saved" at the end of last week's one and I also wondered if River has whispered The Doctor's name into his ear. (Don't know what made me think she'd done that, but there we go) The only thing is, the events that River describes of The Doctor's future could be a couple of years away or millenia away so they probably wouldn't appear in any TV series. But it's interesting to hear of The Doctor acquiring massive power/influence. Gives me a nice mental image of this army running away in terror whilst Davd Tennant just stands there with a big grin on his face. I don't think the next episode will be as good from the teaser, but this series as a whole reminds me that good things do come on TV from time to time.

So, how does River jump about in time then - if not with the doctor.

I assume she does with the Dr- but it seemed like he came and went with
her, rather than she was around all the time, like Donna.

Great episode- pity next week looks wank

Amusingly, River Song could just as easily be his mother. Knows his name, is human and refers to him as sweetie. ^^

She doesn't.

Right, I haven't thought this through, and its too hot for me to, so does anyone mind explaining how she knows his future, was there with him, is now back in the past (with regards to that future she had with him) and in general what the heck is going on?

P.S I haven't read any who novels, anyone got any recommendations?

I'd recommend you read the Time Traveller's wife- that's mostly what this ep's theme was seemingly based on, next to Bobok by Dostoevsky and the Library of Babel by Borges. None of them are Doctor Who books though.

She knows the Doctor's future because the Doctor is a time traveller. The timeline goes like this:

River Song living life > River Song meets Doctor > Both go on adventures/get married or whatever > Doctor gets all shifty and gives her his sonic screwdriver > River goes on a mission to search The Library and bumps into a past version of the Doctor that hasn't met her yet. As a result, she knows his future.

Ta daa. ^^

Far from it in my opinion. Moffat's double bill was excellent, The Fires of Pompei was brilliant, the Sontarans was good.

Only duff one was the doctors daughter in my opinion.
