Quick rant on the LAM's weapons, an i know its been put here before somewhere, why the hell did they think making a stand in a crowded city would be a great idea?
The whole plan has one massive flaw, even if sam had been lucky enough to get the cube onto the Blackhawk, they seem to have forgotten that 3 of the decepticons can fly, and one of them is a frontline fighter plane which could have blasted the chopper out of the sky without even breaking a sweat. They cant run, the decepticons are too fast, they can't hide the cube, cos old megs can sniff it out from lightyears away. The ONLY way they could guarentee the security of the cube would be to defeat the decepticons in a fight.
Fighting in the city works to the enemies advantage, they can smash up all they like, where as the humans an autobots are gonna have to hold back from excessive collateral damage, which limits the amount and type of air cover they can call in, which as the 'special ops team' said, is the only way they're gonna win it. It limits the attack routes of the fighters that eventually turned up, it means no AC-130 cover and little effective chance of using helicopter gunships, it means no artillery or decent armour support with levelling a fully populated area. Apaches with hellfires would have made real short work of barricade, brawl and megatron whilst starsceam is upstairs trading punches with the f-22s. More open ground would have meant much less civi casualties an allowed the american military to do what it does best, an smash s**t up from the sky.
Why didn't barricade use the shockwave gun to smash the building the soldiers where hiding in?
Saying that, it does make for some mega set pieces, with starscream landing on the street and ironhides matrix impression.
Also i've never seen a film with such massive hardware an have them sound so gay. Like barricades Qatar leveling 'blue shockwave' gun, that sounds like a dogs toy being stood on. I want kabbooms, massive earth shattering kabbooms! Megatrons extendable fishing rod gun that sends prime flying down the street didn't sound anywhere near as good as his old arm cannon from the G1 cartoons.
Brawls weapons are the most ineffective i've ever seen. When he starts firing (just before Jazz jumps him), everything about it made me sick. No where near enough noise, smoke an flame an the impact splashes are insulting for a 120mm tank gun, it looked almost like rifle rounds hitting around the 'spec ops team'. If that was a real abrams firing, even the .50 on the roof would have made a bigger impression than that. The main armament would have smashed the whole street up.
High heat sabot rounds? Thats wierd, sabot rounds aren't that hot to be honest. yeah ok, the 105 on the Spectre i'll agree with, the amount of firepower that can call in would flatten anything. But the MSGL (multi-shot grenade launcher)? Everything about that was stupid. Firstly the cylinders on the magazine went round far to easy, wish it was that simple in real life! An as for the 'sabot' rounds loaded into them, no chance. The whole point of a sabot round is a really hard, pointy high speed dart, like the APFSDS rounds on tanks. It needs the speed to penetrate the armour. What good then is a weapon with a muzzle velocity of 75-125m/s on alien regenerative armour when you generally need between 1400 and 1800m/s to penetrate a normal tank? A much better idea would have been copious amounts of anti armour missiles, like the AT-4 or Javelin, with shaped charge (high heat) warheads. And they have a rather satisfying bang when they hit...

Barricade wasn't in the final battle..you mean Blackout..
And odds are he didn't wanna waste it on such a small force..he was probably saving it for Prime..

It's only a movie, mate. The day you had giant robots in a movie was the day you sacrificed realism.
Taking the allspark into a city was a sound choice- far more cover than standing around in the desert.

I'm surprised you haven't been told to change that thread title. Everyone knows you aren't allowed to use the word 'Gay' as a term that implies 'bad'.

Dunno about that, the way he was steering the fleets home, looks like he was making his own cakes...
Yeah, i can see now they were trying to limit the amount of CGI in this film...
I'm sorry, i've been meaning to do it ever since i watched it in the cinema, its like watching Dog Soldiers with the blokes carrying the SA80 left handed, i just get really angry and suddenly my teddy goes well out the window. Infact, thats a point, Blaster, whilst your out there, can you chuck me the blue teddy thats outside?
Oh yeah. oops. Sorry Blackout, now be a nice transformer and dont smash up Qatar when i'm their next...
Yeah fair one Galv, i'm just waiting for the PC Brigade to come at me with real 'gay' weapons, pink furry laser rifles, matching colour cluster bombs and left handed grenade throws

Quick question, Monkey- are you in the armed forces? Or are you an enthusiast? I know what it's like to see something you specialise in misrepresented. :P

With the time, effort and money that went into that movie, they should strive to achieve as close to perfection as possible, not settle for mediocity.

I never said any film was perfect. Transformers has more wrong with it than most films I have seen though.

I really enjoyed the tf movie, sadly i did notice quite a few errors with editing etc, which for the budget makes you cringe. Barricade? hhmm.
Could of been far worse i.e peter jacksons king kong.

Both, which is rarer than you'd expect. I'd just thought that as Galv said, the amount of effort they'd spent making it real and showing us just how superior the transformers are that at the end fight they'd make a tank a useless weapon an allow half a dozen blokes in a house to bring one of them down.
And whats wrong with firing an SA80 left handed? Well were you'd put your cheek to look town the sights it where the working parts are, so firing it left handed would mean you'd get smacked in the face by the cocking handle, then a hot ejected case down your shirt, followed very quickly by lots of laughter (as demonstrated by a Ranger a few months ago when we did a rifle swap...)

Saving Private Ryan.
Nothing wrong with Ghostbusters, legendary films! An Predator i wont argue with, any film which involves hedge trimming with a gatling gun gets my vote!
Aliens was great, future bootnecks carrying converted tommy guns, a MG42 on a steadycam mount an bike parts welded to it and driving around in a repainted aircraft tug. Still one of my favourite films though...
