Picked it up today. Dialogue's still bugging me, but its plot's entertaining.
Anyone else?

Probably not, it has to fit snugly within movie continuity. :P

Landmine is a completely new design for the movie toy range:

There was a Landmine in Energon, but as expected it has no relation to Movie Landmine other than the name.

Stop judging the auto-morph feature from your failure to transform Blackout properly.

It's certainly better written than anything else IDW is putting out!

So long as the story doesn't get rushed toward the end. I find that to be a recurring problem with IDW's 4-part stories - Hearts Of Steel and Megatron Origin both seemed to finish up too quickly, and were somewhat anticlimactic to me. I'm not sure that 88 pages spread over 4 issues is sufficient room to adequately tell a decent story. Especially since this series has already featured 4 full-page splash panels in the space of just two issues. Sure, they look cool, but overusing them can have a detrimental effect on the story, as we just get page after page of robots smashing stuff up, instead of progressing the story.
Anyway, gripes aside, the artwork for this issue was really good, as with part 1. I admit to being somewhat surprised to see Screamer's seeming reluctance to harm some of the humans, as demonstrated on pages 8 and 9. I was expecting to see more TFs in the story, but it looks like issue 3 will be delivering in that regard!
*This must surely qualify as the post with the most uses of the word 'story', or variations thereof, so far. No? Do I get a prize?

its a good enough story, but will ultimately be inconsequential, as most movie tie in storylines are. Plus tie ins tie in with the movie, but often not with each other. We already have 3 different versions of what happened before the movie (novel, idw, tfuk).

For anyone wondering about how this will all fit around the movie, Chris Mowry has posted some details on his blog:

It works perfectly fine in all the Movie toys I have, so that can't be true.
