It may be different over with you, but here in Britain, our Hospitals all smell of the same thing. It smells like buckets of disinfectant mixed with the dry rot of death. Everyone is walking around unhappy, yet putting on fake smiles pretending that they are competant when in fact they rarely seize any initiative and stand around waiting to be told what to do by someone senior or constantly waiting for their pagers to beep.

Are you talking emergency room or hospital general?

I couldn't agree more. All in all, I've been waiting for over 24 hours between Friday and Monday:
  • 30 minutes Friday in the emergency room to actually get looked at. All I got was 2 pain killers which I didn't even need because the bandaging was keeping everything in place quite well.

  • Another 2 hours before they called me again to actually help me.

  • 10 hours! on Saturday waiting for surgery. I wasn't allowed to eat or drink anything since 3 AM. At 18:30 they told my mom that it'd be at least another 2-3 hours before they could help me so we left.

  • 7.5 hours on Sunday before they finally got me to the OR at 2 PM. Another 15 hours without food or drinks.

  • Over 4 hours on Monday just to release me. The problem was that I had to wait for the surgeon but she didn't do her rounds until around 1 PM.

And I'll probably have to wait quite some more when the cast is being replaced. That's going to happen at least twice, plus of course the removal.

So yeah, I hate hospitals quite a bit.

they changed my cast every few weeks at first, and getting the pins out was nasty. the waiting doesn't bother me as i am there to be seen, but going to A&E is really bad if you have something minor and are not passing out or crying in pain you will get left for ages.

when i had surgery they left me for hours without food and then some emergencies came in and i was left to the next day. about 8 hours without food 1 day and another day without food waiting/sleeping after the op. it's not good.

Hospital general.

Wow, that's sh**ty.  I have mostly positive things to say about our hospitals in B.C., Canada.  However, emergency rooms...

I went back to the hospital today to have my cast replaced, and I was quite pleasantly surprised to hear that I won't be having any cast anymore. Instead, I am now taped up for the next 2 weeks with a little heel. After that, it will be another 2 weeks with a smaller heel, then 2 weeks with just tape, and then it's no more tape.

And the great news is, I can stand on my foot again. No more having to lean on stuff, not being able to use both hands. All that's missing now is the ability to walk or put on a shoe - the heel's big enough for me to require socks 3 sizes too large
