Last Friday we had a indoor soccer tournament organized by my employer. I decided to join in. Big mistake.

Having played in defense (quite statically) until then, I decided to go into offense just once. So I ran forward, got the ball passed to me, and when I was about to control it I felt someone kicking me in the ankle. Only thing was - there wasn't anybody around.

I went to the hospital and they diagnosed me with a ruptured Achilles tendon. I've had surgery on Sunday (Saturday was too busy) and I've been home since yesterday. I don't feel any real pain anymore, but my leg is in a cast and will be for the next 6 weeks. The next 9 days I can't even use it at all; afterwards I'll get a new cast which will give me some support.

So if you guys don't see me around that much the coming weeks, you know why.

I agree. I still love playing footie when I can, even though when I was younger I got slide tackled from both sides with my knee in the middle. The footy injuries I've had have hurt a lot more than my Rugby ones surprisingly.

Well I wasn't an active sporter, and that's probably what caused the rupture.

About the hospital, the waiting is the worst. Especially since you can't eat or drink until surgery has finished. In the end I went 15 hours without even a drop of water.

Anyway, I'm off again, see you guys in a couple of days probably.

My dad ruptured his Achilles tendon some years ago. Interestingly, it didn't hurt or make any sound, he just suddenly couldn't walk. Strange that it can hurt sometimes and not others.

i dislocated my left ankle just over 2 years ago and it's not nice, still don't have the same movement in my foot as i did before it, but then i am a lazy a sod. had to have it pinned and everything.

if you pit the effort in it should take a few months to heal, if like me you can't be arsed and do the lease amount of needed then could be yeas

As long as the appropriate Physiotheraphy is taken and there is no rush, things will be peachy. The problem with most courses of Physiotherapy is that they are often rushed.

My boss came by today to give me a company laptop so I can do some work. Also, I can just sit on my bed and still control my PC through Remote Desktop Connection

It hardly hurts now, and I'm quite able to go to the toilet and shower and stuff. Nothing unnecessary though. I still have to keep it low for another week, then I have to go back next week Thursday to have the cast replaced with something that gives a bit more support. All in all it will be at least 6 weeks in cast, and another 6 weeks minimum of physio afterwards. According to the surgeon I would be able to run in 3 months time. Not that I'll be running anytime soon
At least I hope to be able to walk and drive within 6 weeks now.

And about the smell in hospitals - never even noticed a thing. The dryness on the other hand was a problem. On Sunday night, I could have a drink of water and immediately my mouth was dry again.

This is not really sueing material in The Netherlands. It's a risk I've taken myself, and I'm properly insured for the medical bill. As long as I work a few hours each day I don't think they'll cut me on my salary either.
