Brought an animated Starscream from them a couple of days ago, and found that he was missing the thumb when I opened the box.
Does anyone know if FP take opened stuff back?

I dont believe so im afraid. Check you receipt if you have it, most stores state their refund policy on the back.

It depends, some places dont offer refunds if the product has been opened.
HMV and Virgin no longer offer refunds, only exchanges i believe.

Doesn't say anything on the back of the receipt, guess I'll have to see what they say in store.

Any store worth their salt should offer an exchange at the very least. Failing that, you could try contacting Hasbro.. UK.. much good may it do you.

I may be doing you a disservice, but I'm guessing that as an Australian you're not going to know the finer points of a particular London store's returns policy.

Thing is, if the product is faulty, as it is in this case then you have statutory rights. Usually, you can return it within 30 days, opened or not. Different if you open it and decide that you just don't want it, in this case, the product is defective, and you can't reasonably have been expected to know this when you bought it.

Indeed.
Right, you are entitled to a refund, i explained what you had bought Swoop, and they said take it back with packaging and receipt, and either get a refund, an exchange or vouchers.
Problem solved. Arent i nice.

I bought a Marvel Legends Angel figure from FP ages ago, and upon opening the package, found that his leg was warped out of shape and would not support the figure's weight*, making it impossible to stand him up. So I took it back the next day, with receipt, and exchanged it for a new one on the spot.
So they do at least offer a replacement policy, if not a refund one.
* This was without having the wings attached to the figure's back, which result in the figure being unable to stand up due to the excessive weight on its back.

You entered into a contract whereby you would provide £x in exchange for 1 animated Starscream fit for the purpose of display.
This product is not fit for the purpose - thus it is the wrong product and they have breached the contract. Demand an exchange.
Nothing said on the receipt matters if it wasn't displayed beforehand (say, above the counter) as you can't add further terms to a contract which has already been entered into. Past consideration is always bad consideration.
If they tell you to contact Hasbro, remind them of their statutory duty to fulfil their end of the contract under section 14 of the Sale of Goods Act.
Then bitch slap them.
