Got it, though wasn't overly impressed. All you
really needed was the preview issue in order to get the gist of things.
This is of course partly to do with many pages being wasted in order to
give a more 'epic feel' (A full page for Long Haul to Transform?
Really? And then another two pages to have the seekers land and
Transform?), however this isn't too much of a criticism. The pages are
artistically used and a true sense of scale is achieved.
Introductory lines were of the bog-standard cartoon kind, and it's
slightly sad that writers can't write Starscream as being a weasely
bastard without having to spell it out to us like we're four year-olds.
He'd be better if he was modelled on Iago from Othello, I think. Or
Grima Wormtongue from LotR.
The kamikaze fighter pilot also seemed a tad pointless. Why not
eject? Why bother trying to make us care about a throw away character
with the picture? Why did the pilots seemed slightly laid back when
they were getting into their F-22s? All seemed very surreal if not-
dare I say it- pretentious. o.O
I still hold out much hope simply on the fact that McCarthy's
interviews are so positive, and he places a strong emphasis on
character development and portraying the Decepticons as fighting for
their own cause, rather than being moustache-twirling supervillains.
This is the first issue after all, and once placed against others will
make a far more entertaining read. It simply, I feel, suffers from
introductory issue syndrome.
On the bright side, the art, colouring, and MCarthy's art direction
were stunning (Though Guido's style has always been slightly too
cartoony for me, this is simply personal preference), and the issue was
still very enjoyable on a second reading. It was, of course, many times
better than Batman RiP Issue #3.

Well the last page spoiled the s**t out of how Revelation will end.
Not much in the issue that was not in Focus, saw some characters I guess.
Bit simplistic, though they do have 11 issues left!

I'm guessing so that the final issue is out in June 09, before the movie is released. If the series ended in July/August next year, movie hype would probably forget the issue.

Nah, it won't have anything to do with Revelation.
They say it's in IDW continuity, but that's essentially bulls**t. Nothing that's happened so far in the comics written by Furman will have any effect on AHM. The death of Prime in AHM will be explained *in* AHM, and nowhere else.
Why writers can't co-operate, I have no idea.

Pretty much. Though IDW insists it's all in continuity.
If you're as cynical as I am you see it as being a subtle re-do. The interviews with staff also say that they thought it was time for the Transformers to go in a different direction due to falling sales, etc.
IE- though the Autobots left Earth at the end of Devastation, AHM does not take place as a result of this. The Autobots are off Earth for a completely different reason.
The effects and dialogue stating that the TFs are public knowledge are ignored, despite crashing Arks over populated areas, large-scale alien fights in the sky, and Sixshot running around like a loon. Let's not even get started on what's going on in Revelations or Maximum Dinobots.
No previous IDW events will be mentioned, meaning that ultimately, the
Revelations saga and the expansion come to no real change in the TF
storyline.

Or they'll squeeze all the continuities together and make a mess of things.

Or some alternate universe/time travel dohickey will be employed to tidy everything up.

I knew the seekers got redesigned to resemble the Masterpiece toys, and they say there's a reason for that. But I doubt it'll explain why Prowl and the twins now look like their Universe Classics toys.

The reason they've probably decided to use will no doubt be nothing like the truth - which is ej su's Infiltration redesigns were rubbish.

Pfftsh. You and your opinion suck lugnuts.
Nothing wrong with E.J.'s designs- especially nothing wrong with the Autobots, who are mostly a vast improvement.
I certainly prefer his Seeker redesigns to the ones used in AHM.

Over on the IDW board they seem to all be convinced into in the Furman
verse, apparently he is even writing two issues

That's obligatory with any Transformers comic. See Two Megatrons, Earthforce, Lazarus Wheeljack...
I quite enjoyed this, mainly as it felt like a nostalgic mash up of the opening of Time Wars, Wreacking Havoc and the bit where Prime disappeared in Target 2006.

Noticed a few slight discrepancies between this issue and the preview...
On page 5, when one bystander tells another to snap a photo of the Constructicons, the phone owner's response is slightly different. On the next page, when Mixmaster tears off a chunk of brick wall, the shoe and mobile phone at his feet are unstained, whereas the preview issue showed them as being stained with blood. Finally, the placement of Megs' dialogue to Starscream varies somewhat between each issue.
