So for people like me, what was it like, the comic panel, sales, Dan Gilvezan, drinking, who won the pool etc.

Drink. Spacebridge selling for reasonable prices. Dan Gilvezan being a great guy and getting at least 2 standing ovations. And the pub refusing to sell burgers to the Essex boys this year, instead of just refusing us chips. (they claimed to have run out).

For my first AA, I really enjoyed it. Dan Gilvezan was very friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Didn't really see the comic guests - just browsed the dealer tables and had beer. Then lunch, then browsing, then to town for more drinks. A very good time!

Alright. Friday night was a laugh (me and WAR took out one of the guests), AA itself felt somehow tamer this year. Probably because there wasn't really anything for sale I hadn't already owned in the past, and the forum turn-out was pretty meagre compared to the past - No Matrix, Random, RBE, Nightwing, Autocon, Ravage/Stu, Anzati, Tony (Daz's sidekick) and others. Saturday night was good but definitely not the same as 05 and 06.

My first AA so I loved it; however, whilst I've nothing to compare it to, I could feel a strange sense of... umm... "emptiness" too. Only a little though. I assume I just missed a few people who didn't attend. Those who did show up were a lot nicer than I expected. Sickening really.
And yes, before anybody starts a thread in my honour, I did indeed forget my ticket. Infact I even forgot tickets existed and didn't realise there was probably something in my pre-reg' pack until I was approaching New Street. Hurrah
Highlights for me are hard to come by as I can't remember not liking anything, but I was especially taken by our beer display (with accompanying admin's throne of ultimate chaos) aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... Omar's brother doing his cupid routine

My first AA too - haven't been to a Transformers convention since Transforce 2001, so I was well up for it. :) Good fun, too - I didn't go in with any goals in mind, but wound up snagging a bunch of things that I've been after for a while. I'm not a drinker so I wasn't out for the Saturday evening, but it was totally brilliant getting to meet'n'greet forum members at the con itself. I think there were a few guys that I didn't get to say hi to properly, though. Someone took a pic of the bunch of us... I assume that'll be up sometime soon. I'm the bedraggled-looking giant in the middle who looks like he hadn't slept for a week (delayed flights, arrgh!)
Didn't really listen in on the comics panel, but got in place quickly for Dan Gilvezan, who really was an absolutely lovely bloke. He really seemed to be happy to be there.
Now, where's them quiz results? :D

I missed the quiz, and i'm guessing a lot of other folk missed it too because they were all waiting for me so they could bugger off to lunch. (which weren't as nice as the billy bear sandwiches)

Aw, boo! I would've totally come up and said hello! I was a bit dazed for that photo, though... I was looking at a table and it happened to occur behind me, and someone poked me and said "Get in here!" and I was all "What am I doing now?" and then I saw the camera and had to tear my glasses off to look at non-heinous as possible.
See, that's the benefit of using your real name on forums - it's there
on the con badge and people can see it and go "Hey, you're that person
that you are!" I could identify nobody. :)
(And I DID get a few commentary-admirers approach me! None of the female variety, alas, although one bloke told me how his ex-missus was apparently obsessed with my voice. )

i'll get the photo's put on here tonight
I wasn't tipsy, i was just enjoying myself. I did have a good time, but i have to agree with Spec that there was something amiss. maybe there was too much stuff for sale that could be found in argos/toys r us - at aa06 i could have spent like £3k without flinching but i struggled to want to spend more than a ton plus this time. perhaps i'm just a bit jaded (it was my 3rd AA) i dunno; difficult to put my finger on it.

It did lack a bit of the buzz of previous years.
Still, I'm sure making it into a 3-day event, adding a load of Star Trek stuff, putting on a disco and charging 3 times the price will sort it.

I've been thinking the same thing Sticking us in the corner of a trek convention would not be a good thing.
Chris, I am sad inside on many levels. Some of them moral We shall meet! Or at least we shall pretend we did when Blitzwing uploads his photos
