That's the best gaming news I've had all year  I won't be bothering with a PS3 or a 360 untill there have been some rather significant price drops, the Wii however I will have ASAP after 8 Dec

I'm not sure if this is a good or bad price. £10 more than the PSP, but only £20 less than a core Xbox 360.

I don't know if I want to get it straight away, think I wait for feedback from the US first which is still plently of time before the UK launch.

Can't wait for LoZ TP and SSB: Brawl!! Only 2 that I must get from the launch titles.

Not liking the stay on for 24hrs thing though.

It's not really mandatory.

Anyhoo, I shall hopefully be getting one on launch day, funds and supply willing.  Hopefully with zelda, red steel, and a classic controller.

I think its silly dropping DVD playback, but oh well.

I think the pricing is good, far less than PS3 and a bit less than the 360 base pack. Game pricing seems solid too.

The price has really put me off.

It's only £20 less than a basic 360 and $90 more than it costs in the states.

Of course that's not unusual in the console market, but seems much more noticeable as it was they who talked about how much cheaper it would be.

Eh? Please don't tell me it can't play DVDs. That's sadly a constant factor of the 'My PS2 is better than your Gamecube!' argument in schools.

yeah the core Xbox 360 is quite low but look at the price for its games,

i wonder how that will balance out with the revolution, though i think i may pick one up to

No it cannot, they dropped DVD playback altogether from what I read.

has it got DVD support for games? 600 to 900mbs for a game isn't too much quality or content. IMO.

maybe they will do a MS and have an "add on"

No they have confirmed that there will be no DVD add on at all for Wii, the discs it uses are not DVD's as far as I'm aware, its a 12cm format, so is the same size as a DVD, but I dont think they are DVD's.

No DVD playback as it would have bulked up the price and also due to the fact that DVD players are now dirt cheap.

It will use special DVD sized discs, but not actual DVDs.

dvd sized discs are just normal cd's which can hold upto about 1gb of data, seeing as a dvd can hold upto 8.9 and BR can hold up to a possibale 50gb the amount of content will be amazin

Thats not strictly true, they are not CD's, 12cd discs dont have to be CD or DVD, these are something different altogether much the the GD's used in the Dreamcast

The only question is if companies will actually use that space.
We saw Spiderman on both the DVD format consoles but also on the much smaller capacity Gamecube discs.
Similarly Resident Evil 4 is 2 discs on Gamecube, not even filling the PS2 disc it's ported too.

And GTA4 is on 360, so it's highly unlikely it'll use more than a fraction of the blu-ray capacity of the PS3.
