That scene was in episode 29 of the anime.

As expected, subbed versions of episode 36 have started to appear.
So pick your poison - Ruberia's XVID, H264 or Quick'n'Dirty.

*Starts laughing manically*
Has anyone watched Cease & Desist's version of episode 36 yet?

I have, and I'd suggest you do the same if you've been following a certain fansub group for this series.

The overall translation is slightly better than that of the releases using Ruberia's subtitles is the main reason for watching it, also the fact that this particular version was done by *cough*Kuro-Hana*cough* as a massive "f**k you" to Viz Media is worth its weight in gold.

As the old saying goes, all good things (depending on your opinion) must come to an end, and the same applies to Death Note, so without further ado, here's Ruberia's version of episode 37.

So from what ive heard the ending is really different, but other than mikami not being directly controlled by the death note, and misa not committing suicide, i cant see any other differences?

The ending of the manga is similar to that of the movie from what I've read up on it [highlight the quote below for the manga ending], oh and from my understanding, it was implied that Misa dies in the anime as well.
Wikipedia wrote:
| (Light and Near meet at the warehouse with their members. Light has
arranged for Mikami to use his Shinigami eyes and real notebook to kill
everyone present except for Light himself. Mikami writes all the names
in, as both Near and Light expect. Light confidently invites Mikami in,
but time passes and no one dies. Mikami is apprehended by the SPK, and
Near reveals that he had earlier obtained Mikami's real copy of the
Death Note. Using the fact that Mikami had not written down Light's
name, Near proves that Light is Kira. Light confesses, ranting about
the better world that he has created, but Near puts him down as a
dictator and mass murderer. Light then tries to write down Near's name
on a piece of the notebook concealed in his watch, but is shot by
Matsuda, a member of the original taskforce. Matsuda yells at Light, as
he is extremely angry that he caused the death of Light's father. Light
puts it off, saying that his death was inevitable. After trying to
continue writing Near's name with his blood and finger, Matsuda shoots
him again, blowing away the paper and immobilizing him. Light begs
Mikami to kill everyone, but Mikami cries out that Light is not a god,
and that his stupidity caused this situation. Light then calls out to
Misa to kill everyone, but Near reminds him that Misa is at a hotel.
Light then calls out to Takada, but Near reminds him that Takada is
dead.
In a last ditch effort to eliminate his opposition, Light begs Ryuk
to write their names down in his Death Note. Ryuk announces that he is
going to write "it" in the notebook. Everyone shoots at Ryuk, but the
bullets go straight through him. Light shouts out in glee that he has
won. However, Ryuk says that he is not writing their names in his Death
Note, but rather Light's. He says that Light's situation is hopeless
and that if Light needs Ryuk's help, he's already lost. Light remembers
what Ryuk said about Heaven and Hell; there is no Heaven and Hell;
there is only one place everyone goes to when they die, and that is Mu,
or nothingness. Light pleads for his life to no avail as Near and the
rest watch him die. Mikami dies ten days later after going insane in
prison.
Thereafter, Near becomes the new L. A year later, through fate, L
and Light's former colleagues work together to stop a ring of normal
drug dealers in the same warehouse they had their meeting in a year
earlier. The world realizes that Kira is gone, and crime increases
again. Matsuda questions the situation that took place a year earlier.
He questions the fact that Mikami, being the careful perfectionist that
he was, would have checked to see if the Death Note was the real one
and tested it before he set out to the warehouse to eliminate the SPK.
He suspects that Near may have used the Death Note to control Mikami
and stop him from testing it. Because Near burned both of the real
Death Notes at the scene, any evidence that could implicate him would
have been destroyed. The fact that Mikami died ten days later only
solidifies Matsuda's theory. However, Ide (another member of the
taskforce) tells Matsuda that even if his theory were true, there is no
evidence, and if Near had lost to Kira, none of them would be alive
today. Followers of Kira continue to exist thereafter and worship his
ideals of justice.) |

Personally, I liked the way the anime version ended, especially when we got to see Light looking back on his "life" with a hint of regret afterwards.

I wasn't particularly impressed by the ending to death note. Mind you, I've never really liked the light v near/mello battle.

The ending was one of the those things I wondered about after seeing episode 1, because no matter how good Light's intentions were, I just couldn't see him as the last man standing in this battle of wits.
In both of the Death Note endings I've seen (movie and anime), I got the same message from them, which is "absolute power corrupts absolutely".

Just when you thought the fat lady had sang her song, news of a Death Note special appears.
animeOnline.com wrote:
Surprise! An announcement at the very end of the final episode of Death Note,
given by a group of the voice actors and a pair of cosplaying
shinigami, announced that a special is going to air to wrap things up
for the show.
The special is going to air sometime this summer
during Golden Time (Japan's equivalent of prime-time, a.k.a. NOT at the
usual Tuesday at 2am). What will happen during it? Presumably we'll
find out what happened to all the characters after the final episode -
the ones that lived, anyway. |

I know the Death Note anime series has already finished its run in Japan, but I thought this would interest those of you who haven't seen it yet due to your preference of not watching something in a foreign language while reading subtitles.
So without any further babbling from me, here is the first episode of Death Note in its English dubbed form.

The third episode of the TV aired dubbed Death Note is up for those that want it.

Additionally, I will say this about the English dub of Death Note, it has been quite enjoyable to watch thus far.
