There's a lot of stuff... you know, there's new robots that he'll create. Or he'll take something like Soundwave and turn it into Soundbyte and it'll become something else. That's understandable, but in no way is he tainting this at all. If anything he's turning it up and modernizing it.
There are certain things, like Megatron wasn't a jet, you know?
QUINT: I'm curious how that's going to translate. I don't mind that he's a jet so much because even as a kid I thought it was a bit weird that the king of all badass villain robots could turn into a gun that somebody else had to use. It kind of took some of his power away...
SHIA LABEOUF: Right, right. That's sort of what Soundwave was about. Those characters all had meaning because Megatron needed that crutch. Now that that's gone, it's done in other ways. Megatron's crutch now is that he's frozen. But it's modernized. You can't have a toy gun. You've got 9 year olds watching this movie and yes, we're creating mythology, but you can't make a toy gun your antihero and then have Hasbro go out and sell toy guns with the little yellow cap on it, you know? It'll look ****' ridiculous to have Megatron with a yellow nose, you know what I mean? It'd look retarded.
The fact that it's a Razor, a plane that nobody's seen before, that the military is giving us... that nobody has filmed or seen. I mean, CNN has not seen this plane and we're filming it. It's cool. It gives it that edgy sh*t. People have seen guns before, but to make Megatron something that nobody's ever seen and make it an edgy presence... it does, it modernizes it and makes it dangerous again. Guns aren't dangerous. How crazy is that to say? But guns aren't dangerous! You've got guns in movies that aren't dangerous at all, you know? I feel like HERBIE THE LOVE BUG could have had a gun and nobody would have questioned it, you know?
QUINT: Maybe stashed in the glove compartment...
SHIA LABEOUF: (laughs) Exactly, it could have been in the glove compartment! But a Razor, you know, with nuclear weapons... Nuclear weapons is what's dangerous. In the '80s it was the gun, but we've been (desensitized), so you've got to amp it up a little bit. And Michael Bay is the dude to amp everything up! |

Quite interesting, and might indicate that Megatron (at some point) is due to change his apperance.

Guns aren't dangerous?
Does anyone else get the impression he was just watching "More than Meets the Eye" while high from this interview?
It'll be cool to see the revised Megs, but it'll probably be the same mess with "plating", and not the kind we want to see.
A whole new jet is pretty cool and it'd be great to see it. Cool that
the military is giving them that, but it also makes me worry even more;
I don't want this to be a propoganda flick. I can take it in Stargate
because it was always there and it made sense in it's own context, and
time and time again it's the really smart scientist dudes that are the
real assets, with the "alpha male" of O'Neill coming off as comic
relief. Stargate had all the cool, top secret, covert ops kind of side
of the military. It looks like this will just have the WOO ARMY USA
USA! part of it. Which sucks.

Or... It might indicate that the "cybertron jet" we saw on the production sketch is the "Razor Jet" and a real jet the military made and just didnt release publically until now. It could be that.
But that would be really kewl if Megs adopted a new form down the road. You never know.

I think the one we saw was indeed the Cybertronian version. But I'm thinking maybe the Razor will look similar, just more streamlined and shiny instead of a million wire bits that have become a sculpture.
I love secret jets. ^^

Wait, the US military just made a jet designed specifically for dropping Nuclear weapons!?
Isn't there something a bit more worrying in all this than having to buy two Megatron toys?

Not my point. I'm saying the Cybertronian IS the Razor Jet. They may be passing the Razor Jet off AS the cybertron jet. (assuming) I'm just saying keep your mind open and let's not all settle on the first idea we think of.
Sure, I think it's highly probable that Megatron will have two forms in the movie. Both being jets (one cybertronian, the other being earth form.)
But I like taking different perspectives on things. It could always be that Megatron only gets one form and that this "cybertron jet" is based on a real unreleased american jet design.

Ahh I see. Well if thats the case it'll look silly in years to come when we look back and see that his Cybertronian jet is in fact the well-known Razor, if it is the case.

I personally doubt that. The cybertronian jet looks like it'd have trouble flying in our atmosphere, it's weird Plus... well we don't just see Megs in the last 15 mins like people have said, so (in terms of how the story works) it's very possible he'd have two modes.
Infact (and I know it's been done to death but everybody loves it so I'm gonna suggest it anyway) if Megs is being kept somewhere top secret (which he would be) ala area 51, it's not too difficult to imagine that when he's free, he realises he cant fly in our atmosphere so scans the biggest, nearest, most powerful thing he can... and new jets are kept at bases.
If that's what they're aiming at, I like it. Also means they'll be room for more "kibble" or panels on his robot mode, so he'll probably look better all around

Also, what's this about Megs being the "antihero"? Now addmittedly it was a few years ago that I took English lit, but back then the antihero was the character you routed for even though they had some serious morality issues going on (Yossarian from Catch 22).
You think they've been propped that way so it's not a straightforward goodie v baddie movie and instead there's some political element maybe (I mean cybertronian politics) or did Shia just mean Villain?
Good interview anyway, worth spending the time on, though he needs an oral swear filter.

It would be cool if Megs was a little more two dimensional, a slight departure from the "I'm evil...grrrr" and more "I may be ...kinda evil... but look i have my reasons... and they arn't 'kill all humans for the sake of it'".
I somehow doubt it though. Heres hoping. As for the jet, a nice idea.

Rosalie, your talking about the US army here, they have the B2, F117a and the B52 all made to drop bombs, the first 2 being the stealths and designed to drop nukes, the scary thing about the first 2 is, you don't know about it and then your dead...........
I'm guessing the razor is the new stealth type plane which should be good. means it will be reviled sometime this year before the movie comes out

I love the movie MEGATRON head (that was leaked) but only the "battle mode" version. Without the shell it looks a little small on the body..
