Hi,

I'm new to collecting Transformers - was a big G1 fan 20 years ago and have
just rediscovered them!

Is there a complete list of Takara G1 reissues somewhere?

Cheers,

TIR

^ That thread doesn't have the non-TFC reissues listed IIRC.

Bah.

Add Galvatron, Star Convoy, Predaking and Sixshot. Plus all the early 'old style packaging' ones too that I can't remember.

Thanks for the list - I take it that these "book-style" reissues are different to
the ones like Galvatron (which just come in a standard box).

What's the general view on the Takara reissues? Is it worth getting those
instead of original G1s?

It depends on what you're after.
If you want nice stiff figures, unmarked, sticker sheets intact, the reissues are definitely the way to go.
But they are slightly different to the originals in some cases, and some don't like that.

There were two G1 versions of Hot Rod, one with a smaller hand hole and his original guns, one with a larger hand hole and his targetmaster gun only.
The reissues comes with both sets of guns, made to fit the one size.
I believe it's the same for Kup, and I'd say these are improvements over the originals.
Soundwave/Soundblaster have extras in the shape of cassette cases for the minions and differ from the originals slightly, changes in the mold in the button area.
Soundblaster is a fraction of the price of an original, but reissue Soundwave is almost as much as the original now.
And Bumblebee has a new face to match the cartoon, and in my opinion you need to own both the reissue (which I don't have yet) and an original.

There may be more differences, they're the only ones I know.
Also, the numbered reissues have beautiful colour booklets featuring photos and art, mini posters and a trading card sized chgaracter card for each figure, which are really nice.

OK, so what's the difference with the "non-book" TFC releases? Apart from
being different Transformers, are they straight re-issues of the G1s like the
book versions? Any reason why Takara are releasing some as part of the
numbered collection and some not?

I suspect it may have something to do with them not fitting in the "book" boxes, but I'm not sure to be honest. I think the Predaking reissue is exactly the same as the metal-chest original, but I've heard that Star Convoy has differences. Pepsi Convoy & Galvatron are completely different from the originals, so I don't think there's a "rule" as such?

I bought the reissues myself as they're (usually) alot cheaper and you get a brand-new toy. The changes made on the Takara reissues are (as far as I know) improvements over the originals. Be careful with the Hasbro reissues though, they have severely f***ed-up some of them!

For Bumblebee, I got the Minibot reissue set, and bought the keychain set (Bumblebee, Brawn, Wincharger & Cliffjumper) to fill in the spaces. I see the money spent on originals was money better spent getting Pipes, Seaspray, Outback, etc originals as they haven't been reissued yet.

If you search for "E-Hobby Transformers" on eBay you'll see that they do various reissues too. Some are originally unreissued 'bots (Ratchet, Ramjet, Trailbreaker, Thrust, etc) but they mainly do funky repaints. They are worth a look too Dude!

E-Hobby toys off the top of my head:

Road Rage (Red Tracks)
Crosscut (Silver Skids)
Chrome Streak (Fully-chrome Silverstreak)
Gold Jazz (Self explanatory)
Megaplex (Slightly recololoured Megatron)
Clampdown & Deepcover (recoloured Sideswipe, one white, one black)
Hauler (green Grapple)
Sunstorm (Orange Starscream)
Anime Astrotrain (recoloured Astrotrain)
Overcharge (black Blitzwing)
Insecticon Drones (red Insecticons)
Go-Bots set (recoloured Bumblebee, Huffer, Powerglide, Cosmos, Gears and Warpath)
Magnificus w/ Gamede (black Perceptor w/ a Diaclone companion)
Cobalt Sentry (blue Ravage and Buzzsaw)

In addition to these, there's been black and clear versions of Hot Rod and Starscream, and various recolours of PM Prime.

As well as all of the already-mentioned reissues there were also Micromaster reissues of Sixbuilder, Sixtrain, Sixwing, Sixturbo and Landcross. These were reissued in both their (close to) original colours and rarer 'chase' versions (red Sixtrain, black Landcross, black Sixturbo, something or other Sixwing and 'Devastator' Sixbuilder, which has been generally-released in the west).

Just thought I'd add some bits Dude!

Alot of the E-Hobby recolours are Diaclone (pre-TF) colours, like the Blitzwing recolour which is off-white & dark green. This is still available cheap but the price may go up when stocks run low.

The Clampdown & Deep Cover 'bots are recolours of Red Alert & Sideswip respectively, the only difference (as far as I can see) is the lights on top of Red Alert's/Clampdown's roof. For some reason the price doesn't go up on these often, so don't pay too much on a "Buy-It-Now" deal.

My fave! - The E-Hobby Minibots pack contains 3xAutobots & 3xDecepticons. These are named and (loosely) coloured as Gobot Guardians/Renegades. These don't show up on eBay often, but a search of the "eBay Shops" may prove fruitful.

Detritus - A nice "Junkion" repaint of Hound. Definitely better than I expected it to be, and can be found cheap.

Orion Pax & Dion - Repaints of the "Kup & Wheelie" set. Supposed to depict a "teenage" Prime, I still need to buy this set.

Black Megatron - E-Hobby released 3 versions of Megatron reissues: A "regular" one (see below,) a "Megaplex" one (see WAR's post, this is based on the pre-TF version and the "Goodbye Megatron" giftset version,) and a "Black" version (based on another pre-TF version.)

Tiger Track (yellow Sideswipe) - I don't know much about this one to be honest, just that it's a yellow Sideswipe! (Figure King - see NS's post below.)

Fire Guts God Ginrai/Nucleon Quest God Ginrai - Red, orange, yellow & gold repaint/Black repaint. Both of Powermaster Prime, with the "Fire Guts" version containing Apex Armour (see NS's post below.)

E-Hobby "original" reissues:
  • Megatron
  • Ratchet
  • Ironhide
  • Rodimus Prime (not sure if it was E-Hobby, but a definite Japanese reissue.)
  • Sideswipe
  • Red Alert
  • Inferno
  • Grapple
  • Starscream
  • Skywarp?
  • Thundercracker?
  • Ramjet
  • Thrust
  • Dirge?

(Please feel free to correct/add to if needed Dudes!)

Fire Guts God Ginrai is a straight reissue of Powermaster Prime with Apex Armour, but Nucleon Quest Super Convoy (The only version of Convoy using this mold) is just a black PM Prime.  There wasn't a black God Bomber/Apex Armor in this release.

Cool list. Never realised my Black Hot Rod was limited to 1500. One thing it doesn't mention is the 'chase' Micromaster reissues and the black chase keyring minibot reissues.

^ But if you click the Micromaster links, they do have pics of the chase versions (except Sixliner).
