When in earths History is Beast Wars supposed to be set?

So we have primative man in the show. Shouldn't it be all sabre tooth tigers and whooley rhino's instead of the beast modes used?

Beast Wars was intended to be set in present day before the writers decided against it, so that's one of the reasons. Also, it's doubtful children really care if the creatures they become are all from the time period.

One can argue that since the Beast modes aren't for disguise, providing they are functional bio-shields from Energon radiation, appearance doesn't matter.

It starts out as 300 years in the future, but the writers have since admitted to not knowing what timescale TFs operated on at the time (i.e. the Earth-bound G1 TFs spent 4 million years hibernating), so you should really assume it's more like 30 million years in the future.

Due to the appearance of early humans, Beast Wars for the majority is around 100-150 thousand years in the past.

Makes sense. Who is there to hide from after all.

in that case, why have beast alt modes at all? Why not just stick a layer of skin on top of the normal robot mode?

Possibly,it begins in the Cretaceous Period ?Or maybe way before that.Giant bugs(like Waspinator,Blackarachnia and Scorponok)existed way before the dinosaurs did.

The creators apparently never agreed on the timeframe for the Earth-based secnes, but the Cybertronian scenes are supposedly set around 300 years after the conclusion of Marvel's Generation 2 Comic, placing it at or near the turn of the 24th Century.

We DO know, without a shadow of a doubt that the Earth setting was within the last 4 million years simply down to the presence of the Ark.

And THAT's why the dinosuar modes were taken from fossils and not living specimens.

I'd say the Humanoids in Beast wars are more than likely Homo-erectus *No sniggers from the back please* Which would place Beast Wars 1.8 to 1 million years ago?

We saw a sabretooth tiger trying to make a chew toy out of Silverbolt in Bad Spark IIRC.

And we didn't see wooly rhinos because there's never been such an animal.

Though if you mean woolly mammoths, I don't think they lived outside Siberia, and as BW wasn't set there for the most part....
