Hey everyone, I was just wondering why there were blank protoforms on the Axalon. It seems quite pointless to have them on board if they didn't carry sparks.

Perhaps for backup? If someone got horribly hurt, his/her body beyond repair?
Just put him/her in a new body, scan for an alt mode and you're ready to go!

I agree. That's most likely the reason a transport ship would have spare bodies on board.

A right, forgot that. Probably they were ready to be transported to some site where they were to be given sparks.

There's probably some more info on this in the Dawn of Future Past comic, but I'm too lazy to get it right now.

The Axalon's an exploration ship. Spare bodies are around in case someone gets injured.

Ever gone exploring in the amazon basin without medical supplies? I thought not.

But some of the protoforms were blank, i.e. without sparks. That's how Optimus got his TM body after the original got destroyed at the end of the first season. At the start of the second Rhinox guides Primal's spark to a blank protofom body.

well maybe some were blank, the creators didnt really think this through.
i always thought primes body just turned transmetal, like rattraps.

That's why I bought the R1 DVDs. Because I wasn't going to wait for Sony to do the unthinkable - make money by releasing this excellent series.

I got them an Amazon (the UK one yes) from US seller Caiman USA.

There's also an R4 (Aussie) version these days so you may want to go for that if it's cheaper. Which I doubt, with Amazon's low DVD shipping prices. Check out http://www.madman.com.au/

I think that not being able to 'remember' only effected those transformers awakened from stasis following the quantum surge. Megatron deduced that this had wiped their data tracks (memory) and used this to his advantage.

The Axalon's mission has never been terribly clear - I think as well as purported 'exploration' they may have been intending to set up some form of outpost/ colony. They did seem to jettison an awful lot of stasis pods!

The only 'blank' protoform glimpsed in the series was the one Rhinox used to bring Primal back. The Maximals seemed a bit suprised that they'd been carrying a blank, which raised further questions in my mind. And highlighted one of the Maximal's weaknesses:

There seemed to be a lot more to the Axalon's mission than Primal was letting on to his crew, even to Rhinox. This unwillingness to share and act on information made them seem more duplicious than the Predacons! And it was of course, one of the reasons for Dinobot's frustrations with the  Maximals - he knew Megatron wouldn't be sitting about waiting for things to happen and was actively taking steps to forward his agenda.

The BotCon Timelines comic explained that Primal had been given a secondary mission - transporting Protoform X (Rampage). Actually, it was dumping him on the most barren rock they could find
It was all kept a bit hush-hush - perhaps Rhinox knew, but the rest surely didn't.

That also explains why Rampage was on board.

...and why by not telling the others they ended up unleashing protoform X again. Jettisoning it along with all the others, before they crashed

I thought one of the missions of the Axalon was to chase Megatron because he had stolen the golden discs or something

Haven't read the Timelines comic for a while, but in the TV show Primal and Rattrap have the following exchange:

R: We're an exploration ship! Not a battle cruiser!

P: We were the closest ship,Rattrap. The Golden Disk is one of Cybertron's most carefully guarded relics!

...not that I've watched the show a few times, or anything
