i remember unicrons head making an appearance in the finale of season one, although it wasnt unicron himself it was the vok using his head for a physical form.

I seem to remember it was the same comic where Wheelie gets his, along with Daniel.  Later on, Arcee is a maximal spider, and Hot Rod reappears in his hotrod mode, just smaller.

Some of the characters were given G1 names (most likely in reference). Dinobot (based on the group of transformers called Dinobots), Optimus Prime and Megatron, Silverbolt, Scorponok (who even appeared in the live-action movie), Inferno (who was a Autobot) and I think that's it.

I only know about Ravage and Starscream in terms of characters that survived.

Unicron actually makes two appearances. One as the head (The Vok), and one in the backstory of Starscream (in his planet form).

Starscream's ghost was in season 1. And mjib, i was referring to characters actually from g1 not named after them. And its optimus primal not prime. Duh

Well Inferno could well be G1 Inferno, who was in one of the stasis pods and got reprogrammed as a Predacon by Tarantulas.

According to the IDW comics, Grimlock was in a stasis pod, so why couldn't Inferno?

It involves time travel. The Maximals and Predacons are decendants of the Autobots and Decepticons, living about 300 years from now. A rogue Predacon called Megatron (No relation to the Decepticon commander) recruits a renegade crew, steals a ship and sets off through time using a newly developed Transwarp drive. A Maximal ship captained by Optimus Primal gives chase and they crash on an unknown planet. At first it's thought Megatron has come here to plunder Energon but it turns out the planet is prehistoric Earth. Megatron has travelled back in time to find The Ark and destroy Optimus Prime before he can awaken in 1984 and lead the Autobots to victory in The Great War.

I remember reading somewhere that Cheetor is supposed to be the upgraded Bumblebee and it is stated by Optimus in the 2nd season that Rampage has Starscream's spark.

It wouldn't seem right if Cheetor was Bumblebee. Cheetor was a kid when BW started, whereas Bumblebee, small as he might be, was a lot older and wiser than any moment Cheetor had prior to Beast Machines.

As for Rampage, you have misunderstood. Rampage was created in an effort to make another spark like Starscream's - immortal, never being able to die. If he's anything to Starscream, it would be more like a cheap clone.
