..but when did buying fuel become a major financial commitment?

I just filled up the car and paid £1.09 per litre for unleaded. This keeps up, I'm gonna have to sell my bloody house just to get off the driveway. Time was, (about 6 weeks ago..) I could put £10 worth of petrol in the tank and that would last me a week - week and a half at a stretch. I put a tenner's worth in on Sunday, and already I'm dry.

It's not as though we're using the car excessively either, we share a car, but we work at the same place so we travel together, we generally walk if we go shopping, to see my family etc...

I don't know why. But I blame Prez.

How fuel efficient is your car? Mine used to go realyl far on a tenner, but now I fear the worst when I come back for the summer.

diabolical prices here in Germany as well. Glad we now only have one car and an efficient one. And shopping is no great distance. Chubbs was right with his question to God, "what? We have to eat with knives and folks and your giving them oil!"

Oh you lot are fine, your job doesn't require you to drive to every bloody job. It's currently costing at least £15 a day to do my job. Ridiculous.

Because electricity is supplied by a power plant which burns fuel!

Indeed, in fact the price difference between petrol and diesel means that unless you are doing lots of miles then its not worth the extra fuel costs.

He says as he is about to order a new 3 litre diesel car........

They need to start mass producing hydrogen cell fueled cars. Yes, its expensive at first, but its cheaper in the long run.

and cleaner for the environment, problem is the petrol companies own all the patents so that they can keep on selling they're precious oil.

Indeed. One of them needs to get ahead of the game and start making a profit from the Hydrogen celled cars. Sod the competition. If I was head of a company, I'd want as much leverage for the future as possible, and try to convert that into profit.

How much oil can there be left?

Using todays exchange rate, your cheapest 1.42 euros works out to £1.11 even more than what I paid this morning. Insane.

£1.13 at my local garage for fuel, anyway. Glad I don't drive.

Ours is $1.24 Canadian per liter.

Did you know that Canada and Mexico supply the majority of oil to the US?

So, 1.24 amounts to 0.63 pounds.  I'm not bragging.  We are lucky.  You do have better transit and my province sits right next to the big oil machine (Alberta).  Then again, you could physically fit about 5 UK's in my province.  Size is relative.  You also have 20 times more people in the UK then you do in British Columbia (province I live in).
