I've seen lots of Dr Who books in Borders and W.H Smiths and am wanting to start reading them but im not sure what to read first. Do they read in a ccertain order (except for the order of different doctors, assistants) Also are they worth reading? Sorry for not putting this in the Series 4 thread but I dont want it swallowing up by other discussions

They're usually stand alone efforts, although they tend to include references to the particular series They're based on. I don't think you'll have much problem whereever you start.

yah as fudge says there stand alone

however if you want to read them in some semblance of order then look at the front covers, the earlier a doctor on the front the earlier the book

The older Virgin books (New and Missing Adventures) are vastly superior (and for a long while were actually considered canon untill they started getting contradicted or adapted).

But for the most part, like the others say the books are mostly stand-alone with only a few references to TV episodes. But the newest books that feature Donna will have strong ties to the last two years worth of continuity (The last book in the sequence will charter Martha travels around Saxon's Earth from the Last of the Time Lord's parallel timeline).
